Seller: billcree (74) 100%, Location: Ashford, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 192038572384 This wonderful clock has to find a new home as it is too tall for our 16th Century cottage. A very reluctant but necessary sale. The clock has been formally valued, the text of which is this: Case: 211 x 505 x 30cm solid oak longcase with flat top hood having a double caddy top, each with an overhanging cornice above the square glazed dial door flanked by fluted free standing hood colonnettes. A stepped and concave moulding leads down to the trunk section with full length oak door having a 'Cupid bow' top and sharp corners. An ogival moulding takes one down to the square base section with horizontal moulding at the bottom resting on short bracket feet. Dial: A square brass dial with applied goddess-head or Cupid-head spandrels applied to each corner around the main dial with its Roman hour brass chapter ring, closed minute ring with Arabic markers placed every five minutes, quarter hour chapter ring to the inside of the hours and interesting half hour markers (typical of Mosley's work, i.e. a combination of arrows and spidery type crosses). The matte brass dial center has an overly large calendar arch in the lower half, also typical of Mosley dials, skeletonized original steel hour and minute hands and two mock winding holes to mimic an eight day wind up movement. Movement: Cord pull up, weight driven time and strike movement of 30 hours duration, striking the hour on a bell above the brass solid plate movement with anchor escapement and long seconds pendulum swinging inside the case. Condition: Fully functional, able to run and strike. A very handsome Provincial oak case 30 hour clock. A wonderfully proportioned oak case in very good condition. A superb and classic Joshua Mosley brass dial, completely genuine and has the movement to match. Circa 1753. Height 21.1cm. Depth 30cm. Diameter 55cm. Extra Notes Retail price is about £3,000 but with prices deflated for such clocks will accept less. I purchased the clock in 1994 for £1650, see photo of original receipt, so a real bargain at just £895. Age: 1750s, Type: 30 Hour Longcase Clock, Material: Oak
