Item:145612068968Blocks of Figured English Oak. Here we have some beautiful oak pieces, ideal for turning, carving, parquet flooring, decorative panelling, and so on. The oak is rough-sawn and has been air-dried for a period of five years. The pieces are of mixed grade: Prime & Character Grade. Some pieces may showcase occasional knots, checks, or marks, that would be classed as Character Grade. Others are cut from prime lumber, boasting a clean, knot-free surface and even grain. Some pieces can exhibit distinctive visual
characteristics, such as flecking or figuring (from radially cut logs),
or cat paws found in pippy oak. In summary, all pieces display
a tight, close grain (characteristic of old-growth timber) highlighting
impressive grain patterning and a deep, rich color. If you do the math, it works out at 2.70 per piece, and that's for solid old oak!! You couldn't buy a piece of cheap softwood from your local hardware store for that price!! Size & Quantity Length: 40-45cm Width: 7cm Thickness: 4.5cm Quantity: 120 units For convenience and simplicity, the timber will be as a job lot (as described). oak (Quercus robur) is renowned for its strength, durability, and
distinctive grain patterns. As a hardwood, it features a robust and
dense composition, making it ideal for various applications in
construction, furniture, and flooring. The heartwood displays a light to
medium brown hue, while the sapwood is lighter in color. English oak is
prized for its excellent workability, allowing for precise
craftsmanship and intricate detailing. When polished, it finishes to a
smooth high luster that reveals the distinctive ray flecks, or "tiger
stripes", when radially cut. Moreover, it exhibits good decay resistance
and durability, making it a preferred choice for outdoor structures.
Its historical significance, coupled with these exceptional properties,
has solidified English oak's enduring popularity in traditional and
contemporary woodworking. Disclaimer: Being
a natural product, every piece of wood is unique. Different boards will
display distinguishing characteristics, but what is anomalous is the
quality. Some pieces will have one square edges, and some will have one
square edge and one live/natural edge. You may find some pieces will
have, or have had, bugs and critters where bark and sapwood are found -
which is perfectly normal in air dried timber - however the heartwood
remains solid and bug free. As is the norm with rough sawn timber, there
will be slight variations in sizes and dimensions, but rest assured
that they will never be smaller than those specified. In sum, the timber is rough-sawn, air-dried, untreated and ready to be worked and finished as so required.
