Top Row (left to right):

Arsenal F.C. Football Club – Leather fob with chrome badge containg an acrylic label with the club’s logo (small chip to label). Likely to date from the 1960s. Length (not including ring): 66.5mm.

1978 Argentina 78 World Cup – Made as a promotional item for the 1978 FIFA Football World Cup held in Argentina. Metal fob decorated with the official ‘Argentina ‘78’ logo. Fob width: 31.5mm.

1982 Espana 82 Spain World Cup – Made as a promotional item for the 1982 FIFA Football World Cup (Espana '82) held in Spain. Metal fob with two plastic inserts, one decorated with the Spanish flag and the other the tournament’s official mascot, Naranjito. Fob length (not including chain): 54.5mm.

1983 Ryder Cup Golf Tournament - Made as a promotional item for the 1983 Ryder Cup golf tournament held at the PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Stainless steel fob impressed with the official tournament logo. Fob length: 54mm. The United States team won the 1983 competition by a score of 14½ to 13½ points, the closest Ryder Cup since the tie in 1969.

Desert Orchid Racehorse – Leather for with enamel disc. Length (not including ring): 66.5mm. Desert Orchid (1979–2006), known as Dessie, was an English racehorse who achieved a revered and esteemed status within National Hunt racing. He was rated the fifth best National Hunt horse of all time.

HMS Dundas Royal Navy Warship  – Moveable metal & enamel HMS Dundas ship’s badge encapsulated within a perspex fob. Fob width: 43.5mm. Likely to date from the 1960s. HMS Dundas was a Blackwood-class anti-submarine warfare frigate of the Royal Navy. She was launched in 1953 and broken-up in 1983.

King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery (Perspex) – Perspex fob, with black interior & gilt lettering – One face marked “The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery” and the other, “Riding House Department of His Majesty’s Ordnance”. Fob width: 36.5mm. Slight bubbling to finish within fob. The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery is the Queen’s mounted ceremonial battery. It’s role includes the firing of Royal Salutes to mark the grand occasions of State, including The Queen’s Birthday Parade, Royal birthdays, births and deaths.

Gurkha Welfare Trusts – Leather fob. Length (not including ring): 66mm. The Gurkha Welfare Trust is a British charity established in 1969. It is the principal UK charity for the provision of aid to Gurkha ex-servicemen and their dependants.

1977 Silver Jubilee Fleet Review at Spithead - Perspex fob with blue interior & gilt lettering. Gilt metal reverse. Decorated with ships and subs of the Royal Navy , including H.M. Yacht Britannia. S urrounded with the caption, “Fleet Review at Spithead – June 28 1977 “.Fob width: 36.5mm. On 28th June 1977, to mark Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee, a Fleet Review of 180 ships of 18 nations assembled at Spithead in 10 lines seven miles long.

UPS United Postal Service Aircraft – A PVC fob decorated with cartoon image of a UPS aircraft. The Reverse bears the slogan, “Aviation Security is Everyone’s Business”. Length (not including ring): 64.5mm.

UPS United Postal Service Boeing 747  - A git metal and acrylic fob decorated with an image of a UPS Boeing 747 aircraft. The Reverse bears the company’s web address. Length: 63mm.

M.S. Midnatsol TFDS Ship – Perspex fob with the image of the ship MS Midnatsol and the flag of Norwegian shipping company TFDS (on the reverse) encapsulated within. Manufactured in Denmark by Eskesen.  Fob width: 40mm. MS Midnatsol was a Hurtigruten ship built in 1949. The ship was handed over to the Bergen Steamship Company in November 1949 and was in constant use until 1982. In 1979, Bergenske Dampskibsselskab (BDS) sold its four Hurtigruten ships to Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskap (TFDS). In 1987, the ship was sold to Belgium for scrapping.

Air-Malta Airline – Perspex fob with the Air Malta logo encapsulated within (original logo introduced on the airline’s formation in 1973). Fob length (not including chain): 36mm. Air Malta plc (stylized as airmalta) is the flag carrier airline of Malta, with its headquarters in Luqa and its hub at Malta International Airport. It operates services to destinations in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

TAP Air Portugal Arline 1944-1979 – A bronze metal fob commemorating the 35 years of TAP – Air Portugal. The front bears the airline’s logo which was introduced in 1979. The reverse is decorated with all the earlier logos which had been used from its creation in 1944. Below is the caption “Setembro de 1944 a Junho de 1979” (September 1944 to June 1979). Fob diameter: 35.5mm.

The Green Bus Co. Ltd Bus Ticket – A stainless steel fob printed with the image of a vintage 4 1/2d bus ticket as issued by The Green Bus Co. Ltd (Rugelely & Uttoxeter). The Green Bus Co. Ltd was formed in 1927 and operated until 1973 when it was taken over by the National Bus Co. It operated from depots at Rugelely & Uttoxeter in Staffordshire, England.

S.S. Oriana Ocean Liner (Floaty) – Made as a souvenir of the P&O ocean liner/cruise ship S.S. Oriana (in service between 1960-1986). Plastic transparent ‘floaty’ fob with an image of the ship passing in front of the New York skyline. Made in Denmark. Slight warping to the fob and no liquid remaining (ship still moves). Launched in November 1959, SS Oriana was was the last of the Orient Steam Navigation Company's ocean liners. 

Smurf & Papa Smurf – Genuine late 1970s keyring made as promotional merchandise for the Belgian comic series and animated TV show ‘The Smurfs’ (French: Les Schtroumpfs), created by cartoonist Peyo. Plastic fob with vinyl inserts depicting a Smurf on one side and Papa Smurf on the other. Marked with a 1978 copyright  imprint. Fob diameter: 46mm.

Smurfs - Moi J'aime Pas...Schtroumpfer – Genuine late 1970s or early 1980s keyring made as promotional merchandise for the Belgian comic series and animated TV show ‘The Smurfs’ (French: Les Schtroumpfs), created by cartoonist Peyo. Perspex fob containing an image of a smurf holding a spade, together with the caption “Moi J'aime Pas...Schtroumpfer” (I don't like...Smurf). Fob width: 38mm.

The Batman – Scarce fob dating from 1970 and made as promotional merchandise for the DC superhero comic book series ‘Batman’. The logo used was the type which appeared briefly between 1970-1971  (10 issues only: 220-230) . Plastic fob containing a metallic silver vinyl label insert decorated with the image of Batman and Robin. Fob length: 63.5mm.

St. Mary Lake, Glacier Park, Montana – A lucky charm key chain made as a souvenir of Saint Mary Lake in Glacier Park, Montana. USA and likely to date from around 1960. An aluminium fob inset with a Lincoln 1 cent ‘penny’, dated 1959. The front is decorated with a horseshoe and a 4 leaf clover with the caption, “Keep Me and Never Go Broke – I Bring Good Luck”. The reverse is marked, “Souvenir of St. Mary Lake, Glacier Park, Montana”. Length of fob: 40.5 mm.

Butlin’s Holiday Camp Xmas 1965 – A good quality keyring sold as a souvenir of Christmas holidays at Butlin’s holiday camps. Leather fob with an attractive chromed metal and enamel badge, the reverse bears the maker’s mark, “J.R. Gaunt, London”. Dating from 1965 (the fob is not dated, but the design is the same as the 1965 Butlin’s Xmas lapel badge). Fob length (not including ring): 62mm.

Champagne Mercier – A good quality silver plated keyring made as an advertising item promoting Champagne Mercier, Epernay. Manufactured in France by Drago and likely to date from the 1950s. Fob diameter: 34.5mm.

Guinness Bottle – Made as an advertising item promoting Guinness stout. Plastic keyring made in the form of a miniature Guinness bottle complete with original labels. Likely to date from the 1980s. Length (not including chain): 69.5mm.

Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky - Made as an advertising item promoting Johnnie Walker Scotch whisky. Perspex fob with the Johnnie Walker logo & slogan, “Born 1820 – Still Going Strong” encapsulated within. Made in Denmark. Fob length: 43.5mm.
