Seller: kneehole_desk (319) 100%, Location: Skelmersdale, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 302147371561 John Taylor and sons Inlaid with ebonised stringing, the writing slope enclosing a green baize inset, pigeonholes, small drawers, compartments and a cupboard, below are twin loper supports and four long graduated drawers, on shaped bracket feet, bearing the manufacturer's ivorine label and with a drawer stamped to the side liner with `A516'. This fine quality bureau is superb. It is in good original condition and with a recorded maker. It is of a higher standard than the majority of bureau being made at that time which makes for a more speculative item to present in a select sale of furniture within an auction saleroom as it is the best. of its category. That said these pieces are admired but there is not the strength of demand that was to accrue during the second half of the twentieth century from British and American buyers. The fashion for these pieces has diminished for many of the younger generations as they pursue the current trend for modernist and minimalist interiors.
