Seller: sonofeustace (358) 100%, Location: Hockley, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 282263923471 This is a fine London 8 day longcase clock in a mahogany case.It has Cuban veneers to the bridge top door and the raised panel to the base.Reeded brass columns and brass capitals. It still retains its original double plinth although the back ends have been cut at a 45 degree angle but you have to really look hard to notice. This was presumably done to fit tight into a corner, similar to, as my clock shows. The hood and trunk doors have original working locks and with keys. No woodworm anywhere. The 12" brass arched dial has engraved and silvered chapter rings and also a calendar aperture. It has a strike-silent hand and a seconds dial. All original steel hands and gilded spandrels.Engraved plaque with makers name ALLEN DOMINY LONDON. The 5 pillar 8 day duration movement is all original and strikes the hours and half hour on a bell and has been completely serviced and is keeping excellent time. It has its original flat brass pendulum rod and double sided bob. Brass and mahogany winding key.I removed the chapter ring and I was surprised to see 1763 engraved into the dial for no apparent reason but I assume this was the year the clock was made.Certainly.Allen Dominy was known to be working. The photos show a narrow L shaped piece of mahogany nailed to the top of the right hand cheek. I removed this piece of wood to show there has never been another longer seat board fixed to the cheek as there are no holes in the top of the cheek and the small piece of wood was only there to steady the clock when being wound. It is not really necessary.I have now added another picture of the seat board showing more clearly that it has always been shorter than the overall width of the cheeks and has always been screwed down to a piece of original wood on the inside of the cheek. I have shown this in case there were doubts that the movement did not belong to this case.In other words a marriage. Should any prospective bidders wish to see the clock prior to buying they are most welcome. The overall height is 85".I can deliver free and set up this clock if within 75 miles of my home or arrange for a courier to deliver for £90 and I would pack it well.Hockley is in Essex, near Southend Please email with any questions or more pics. tel no 01702 205204 or 07510 522887 .I would like to get £2500 but I am open to very close offer. This is a beautiful clock and would enhance anyones house, especially at Christmas and for many, many Christmases to come. Age: Antique, Pre-1900, Type: Longcase/ Grandfather Clock, Style/ Origin/ Theme: Georgian, Material: Mahogany, Features: 8-Day
