This platter is in excellent condition. There is some wear to the gilt edge, visible in the photos, but the floral decoration is in great shape. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
The platter is stamped with the maker's mark for T. C. Brown Westhead Moore & Co, Staffordshire England, with the retail mark of Abram French & Co of Boston, in red. Beneath that is an English registry stamp, with the Roman numeral IV at the top for ceramics but the rest of the ciphers indistinct. We have other pieces and sets in this pattern with clearer registry marks which give us: A for December at the 6 o'clock position, 10 at the 12 o'clock position for the day, and E for 1881, giving us the pattern's date of December 10th, 1881.
The platter measures about 16 3/4 by 13 3/8 inches, LxW. The useable surface area (interior of the rim) measures about 12 x 8 3/8 inches. The height at the rim is about 1 1/4 inches.
