Seller: lionrayhenry (66) 100%, Location: Doncaster, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 192037961986 This is a very interesting Oak Panelled - Back Carver chair in a Primative Style. It was used all it life as the Head Masters chair in the middle of the Dining Room at WORKSOP COLLEGE. I have had it repaired because of some damage done to the back. But this does not take anything away from the history of this chair. Any one in the last 80 odd years that went to that school will know they were not allowed to sit in this chair at all. I showed this chair to my friend who went to this college 60 years ago. He lept into the back of my van and said he had always wanted to sit in this chair waving his arms around like the Head master used to do. On the back of this chair there is a presentation plaque in Latin. It says THE MATERIAL OF THIS SEAT IS FROM THE HOUSE OF DOROTHAE VERNON OF NOTTINGHAM. DONATED BY J.A.K. HORNSBY AUG 1929 My restorer has done some research of Dory Vernon and she came from Haddon Hall Derbyshire . I also have a picture of her house in Nottingham that was knocked down and the timbers that make the chair frame from the roof timbers of that house and the back panels came from the interior he thinks. Anyway this is a very interesting historical chair from the past from Nottinghamshire Condition: USED Only By the Head Master
