Seller: lynchburgbuzzardsroost (1,378) 100%, Location: Lynchburg, Virginia, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 252200627100 Antique 19th c. horse (or other animal) hide covered trunk lined on the inside with Baltimore area newspaper - much of which has deteriorated, but two entries bear the date 1836. contains many local business advertisements, news pieces, property notices, etc. (not all present or legible) worn hand signature on bottom: "Silver & Montgomery #5 C & B Tanner MD" (? as best we can tell) - feel safe to call it a Maryland piece c. 1836. measures about 11" tall, just over 24" wide, and about 13" deep (dollar bill shown in image for size comparison only) Fair, imperfect, antique, pre-owned, used condition with surface wear - the hide has dried out, there is some loss to the hair and a couple of tears - one on the lid, another front right of center. There is loss and deterioration to the newspaper inner lining (please see photos). Looks like it took some water at some point (see bottom inside). Some of the metal portions are worn, mildly rusted, bent. We do not have the key.
