Seller: ti_haddo (30) 100%, Location: Newtownards, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 192041103580 Antique French Mantel Clock This is an old French clock that belonged to a Great Aunt. It's been sat on a shelf oxidising for a number of years and I've given it a basic polish for the photos but it needs a professional clean. We have never attempted to wind it up with the key because I know you can damage them if you don't know what you're doing and over-wind it, so it's been stuck on five-past-six for a long time. I didn't attempt to clean the clock face either as I thought it would risk damaging the numerals or the makers mark further. It features 4 glass panels, a mercury pendulum, front and back opening doors and we think it probably chimes but don't know for sure. There is a makers stamp on the back of the movement although I can't read it and some numbers here and there as you can see. Interestingly there is a name or signature engraved on the top of the back door which looks like "56 \ Stefan/t" or "56 \ Gesanit". I assume it was made for the English Market as it's stamped with "Made in France" as opposed to Fabrique en France. The key is stamped with the number "8". The main support rod for the pendulum is made of steel and has some iron oxide on it. There are two corners of the glass panels which are slightly damaged and a slight scratch on the base at the front which will probably polish out. It measures 6 inches wide by 5 inches deep and 10 inches high. It weighs 4 kilos. For posting it will need to be professionally packed in foam and crated so will cost £25 for UK mainland and £55 for international delivery. I've estimated the age of the piece to be pre 1900 for the purposes of the drop down listing menu but I don't know for certain exactly how old it is. If you have a better idea please let me know and I will update this info. It's been in the family for 50 years at least. As for the price, I'm starting at £150 because we'd be happy to keep it in the family really if we were to be offered any less. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll answer as best I can but please bear in mind I don't know anything about clocks. Thanks for looking! Age: Antique, Pre-1900, Type: Mercury Pendulum, Sub-Type: Mantel Clock, Style/ Origin/ Theme: French, Material: Brass
