Seller: graham3943 (910) 100%, Location: Thames Ditton (nr. Hampton Court), Surrey, Ships to: Asia & many other countries, Item: 361839721221 AN ANTIQUE FRENCH BRASS CARRIAGE/ALARM CLOCK BY REPUTABLE MAKER "DROCOURT" of PARIS. IN EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION. WITH KEYS. The alarm setting mechanism is not working properly.I have been restoring antique and vintage clocks for well over 30 years. I spent many pleasurable hours in my workshop some 18 months ago giving this clock a thorough overhaul, clean and oil. It was made over 130 years ago by DROCOURT of Paris - one of the best French manufacturers of quality mantle and carriage clocks. Following careful and tasteful restoration, it is now in lovely condition with the exception of the alarm fault mentioned above. Height with handle folded down 4 3/4 inches (12 cms); Width 3 inches (7.5 cms); Depth 2 1/2 inches (6.5 cms) CASE:The solid brass case is in excellent original condition. All the case parts, including the top and the base, are stamped with the matching number on the movement (36340) showing it to be all original. It has a folding bale handle and a small chromed bell for the alarm. The rear door opens and closes with beautiful precision - a sign that the clock has not been in any accidents! The case still has its original gilding which I wished to retain: so, I carefully washed the parts in warm soapy water and then gave them a coat of special protective wax polish. MOVEMENT: The movement is in beautiful original condition. It is numbered 36340 on the back plate. It was made by Drocourt of Paris whose name is stamped inside the back plate [ According to Charles Allix in his definitive book about carriage clocks, when Drocourt supplied movements to other people, the inscription "DROCOURT PARIS" was stamped inside the movement hidden by one of the barrels where it would only be seen by those whose business it was!]. The movement was absolutely filthy and running very sluggishly when I acquired the clock, so I dismantled it completely, checked it carefully for wear before cleaning, polishing and oiling it with appropriate grade clock oils. The beautifully engineered movement is now in perfect working order although, as I have said, the alarm setting is not working as it should. It has its original silvered cylinder escapement which I also dismantled, cleaned and oiled: it works robustly with good amplitude. DIAL: I cleaned the white enamel-on-copper dial and minimised a very fine hairline crack across the top left corner; this repair is really only apparent when the movement is removed from the case and so does not show in the pictures or on display. The three classic blued steel hands are original to the clock and are in good condition. GLASS: The five thick bevelled glasses are all in good condition. There is a very small chip to the bevel bottom left corner of the front glass: this does not show in the photo's and I mention it simply for the record. . KEY: The clock comes with two replacement keys. One is for winding the 8 day movement and the other is for adjusting the hands and for winding and setting the alarm. THIS ANTIQUE CARRIAGE/ALARM CLOCK IS IN BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL CONDITION - NOT ONLY AN ATTRACTIVE CLOCK BUT A GREAT INVESTMENT! Packing (new double boxes) and Postage (tracked and insured): UK £10.00; EU £20.00 (approx Euros 25); Elsewhere £30.00 I pack well, post promptly and have 100% positive feedback on eBay which I would urge you to read before bidding. Your best guarantee is that I wish to maintain my feedback rating at this level! These are a few of the comments from people who have bought clocks from me recently:- "1st class, A+++, stunning clock, superbly packaged, pleasure to deal with" "A+++ description, communications and speedy delivery. Thank you." "Thank you for another wonderful clock in excellent order and condition". "Fantastic quality service. Absolutely delighted with the clock. Brilliant. 5*" Good luck if you decide to bid. Thank you very much for looking. Condition: I set about restoring this clock some 18 months ago. After dismantling cleaning and oiling the movement, I found after I had rebuilt it, that although the alarm mechanism is all original and intact, the alarm setting mechanism was not working as it should. Instead of fixing it at the time, I put the clock aside to sort out later. Since when, it's been sitting on a shelf in my workshop! I've now got so much other work on that I've decided to cut my losses and offer the clock for sale as it is.The case and clock movement are in perfect original condition. The timekeeping mechanism works perfectly and the clock keeps good time (see below). There is a really small hairline crack across the top left corner of the dial which I have minimised and there is a small chip to the bevel in the bottom left corner of the front glass which does not show in the pictures. Otherwise this splendid little DROCOURT alarm clock is in lovely original condition., Age: Antique, Pre-1900, Type: Carriage/Alarm Clock, Sub-Type: Carriage Clock, Style/ Origin/ Theme: Art Deco French, Material: Brass, Features: 8-Day
