These six volumes are a series of tours of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. The tours are by various authors and edited by Mavor. The tours are from the late eighteenth century/early nineteenth century as the original publication of this series was from 1798-1800.
William Fordyce Mavor was a Scottish teacher, priest and compiler of educational books. His works were extremely popular and often ran through several editions. He is most remembered for his English Spelling Book although, he wrote several various educational works on history, geography, and literature. Some of his titles include The Geographical Magazine, Dictionary of Natural History, The New Speaker, or English Class Book and The History of Greece.
CONDITION
In uniform half calf bindings. Externally, generally smart. Rubbing to the extremities boards and spines. Head and tail of spines are particularly rubbed with some loss to the head of spines to volumes I, V and VI. Small loss to the tail of spines to volumes I and VI. Front hinges to volumes II and VI are slightly strained but firm. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are age toned with the odd spot throughout, heavier to first and last few pages.
