The inalys and carvings on this piece are truly exquisite. The cupboard was made by the renowned London cabinet makers 'EDWARDS & ROBERTS'. This is the most stunning Jacobean Revival style English cabinet which has been made from oak, walnut and exotic inlays. It is by the highly renowned London cabinet makers Edwards and Roberts and bears it's original makers label. The whole cabinet is also profusely carved with animals, mythical beasts and floral designs. To the top of the cabinet is a two door cupboard which has the doors inlaid with and urn and floral design which is then set within a carved frame. The door opens to reveal a shelf which is adjustable and it is mounted on pegs. Below the cupboard is the original bevelled glass mirror which is flanked by beautifully carved beasts. To the lower part of the cupboard are three drawers which again have been superbly inlaid and are surrounded by wonderful carvings. The drop handles to the drawers are nicely detailed. On the inside of the top drawer is the original makers label which reads 'EDWARDS & ROBERTS, WARDOUR STREET 126, PICCADILLY, 532 OXFORD ST. LONDON'. Also the inside edge to the second rawer has been stamped 'EDWARDS & ROBERTS'. The ends of the cabinet are exquisitely shaped and carved as can be seen from the photographs. The to the top of the cabinet is a lovely cornice which is finished with a carved mythical beast to the two front corners. We have been able to establish the following information about Edwards & Roberts : 'Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp. Edwards & Roberts specialised in marquetry, inlay and ormolu.' DIMENSIONS: The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are: - 35.25 inches wide (across cornice). - 17.5 inches deep. - 78.75 inches high. As can be seen from the above dimensions this is of pretty proportions. AGE: The cabinet is Victorian and dates to circa 1890. CONDITION: The condition of this cabinet is very wonderful as can be seen from the photographs, just minor marks commensurate with age and careful use.
