Antique Mintons 10" Handpainted Imari Plate Merrion Japan Pattern 4257 c1873. An antique Imari dinner or display plate measuring just over 10" diameter and in the somewhat scarce Mintons Merrion Japan pattern. This example dates from 1873 and is in good antique condition free from any chips, cracks or crazing. There are a few specks of paint loss seen only under magnification and some rubbing to the red painted rim commensurate with age and use but it dose display really well. The base is backstamped with the Mintons mark and pattern name Merrion Japan and the pattern number c4257 is shown. It is also impressed MINTONS WS and with other marks including date cypher that I cannot read. However a combination of the name Mintons (with an 'S') which was first used in 1873 and the particular backstamp used which I believe ceased to be used in that same year would seem to date the plate accurately.
