The narrow end has been worked and chamfered off so it may have simply had a cork in here and the chamfer to act as a funnel into the rifle etc.  As you can see it has been engraved with simply  I * B  1796 And this is typical writing style of this period. The central bar on the I ...remember during this period the initial I was also used for a J as you wouldn't see a J very often. The other possible thing it could be is a simple farmers funnel to be held to pour down " drench " for sick animals or animals you just want to give medicine too.  I have actually seen and used cow horns for this very purpose when I was a young man up on a certain farm here in North Yorkshire way back when I was a lad. A common and simple use of a naturally shaped item as a funnel.  It is 4 and half inch long as the crow flies x 2 inch wide at the wide end x 1 inch wide at the narrow end. The iron pin or nail has made the horn crack slightly and its at the right hand side of the initials and date.  The horn has got really nice patina and I have not cleaned it.. I leave items alone as they take donkeys years to get this colour.   Be assured once again this is a period item and not something knocked up in a shed or a modern Chinese copy.
