The movement to this clock is excellent being a very good quality TWIN fusee movement which is nice and clean and is happily ticking and striking away. The dial is signed 'G. HAMMOND, Manchester'. The case is ROSEWOOD and has a wonderful patina which can only be gained through age. The drop dial section to the base has a window to the centre which allows the pendulum to be view and this is flanked by lovely shaped ears which have been inlaid with Mother of Pearl which sets the clock off beautifully. If we start with the dial this is a off white dial marked out with Roman numerals, and has lovely shaped fingers. There is also a catch mechanism for closing and releasing the dial. There is a side door on each side which allows the movement to be viewed when opened. There is also a door in the base of the clock which allows the pendulum to be hung. The dial and movement are held in place with wooden pegs. The back box is nice quality. The movement itself is excellent being a TWIN fusee movement striking the hours on a bell and is on lovely shaped plates. The clock movement is nice and clean and is happily and ticking and striking away. The clock comes complete with it's winding key and pendulum as can be seen from the photographs. MAKERS DETIALS: G. Hammond, Manchester is listed in 'Greater Manchester CLOCKS & CLOCKMAKERS by Edmund Davies': 'HAMMOND, GEORGE, Manchester, born 1815-1881, Clock, watch & chronometer maker, & cut-glass dealer, born Kirkheaton, Yorkshire. At 189 Oldham Rd 1838-40, and at 71 Thomas St, Shudehill, in 1841. In 1845 partner with THOMAS 42 Cross St, King St, as G.& T. HAMMOND, until 1845, when THOMAS took a shop on Quay St. Also at George Hammond & Son, with JOHN HENRY, at 47 Cross St in 1879, but son on his own at a different address on 1888'. DIMENSIONS: The approximate dimensions are: - 17 inches in diameter across the case - 28.25 inches high - 6.25 inches deep In addition the dial is approximately 11 inches in diameter. AGE: The clock is circa 1870. CONDITION: With regards condition, the clock is in lovely condition, as can be seen from the photographs, just minor marks commensurate with age. Just above 'X' there are a couple of very small chips to the Mother of Pearl and there are a couple of knocks to the dial, please see photographs.
