Description Good value STRIKING dial clock made by Ansonia (USA) for the London retailer Saqui & Lawrence. Amazingly this one retains it's original paper faced dial - which is very rare. I've ultrasonically cleaned and correctly oiled the movement, and it is running well and to time, for the intended duration of 8 days. This one strikes on a coiled gong rod. It counts the hour on the hour and executes a single blow at 'half past'. The striking is controlled by a countwheel - which means that if you don't want the striking, just leave the left hand winder unwound. You can choose to restart it a later date but not this doesn't mean it can just be silenced at night. These American clocks have slightly slower (restful) ticks than the European competitors. The original paper faced dial has a couple of run marks as shown in the large photos, but is the best condition we've owned in 13 years of selling these. Solid Beech case stained to a warm medium colour (a touch lighter / warmer than caught in the photos) has been gently restored. 12" dial. Original painted steel hands. Brass bezel gently polished but still retaining some patination. The overall diameter is approx 43cm diameter, 15cm deep.c1920's The partnership of Saqui and Lawrence had a large shop in Piccadilly Circus in London. There is postcard showing the shop (see image 8) Condition Report: - The clock is excellent order for close to 100 years old. It has some age related marks as shown in the detailed photos. - The clock is working well. It is keeping very good time and running for longer than the full intended duration of one week. (You'll wind it once a week on your wall). I have cleaned the movement and oiled it correctly. - The brass bezel has been gently polished from a very tarnished state, but not to the extent it looks new! - The screws holding the movement to the backboard protrude through the thin wood, but not far enough to touch the wall. I only mention this for accuracy. They will have been replaced with larger versions as the original holes became too large with use. Unfortunately we are unable to offer warranties at ebay prices, but warrant that it is correctly prepared and accurately described, and will be available on the phone to help you with set-up or should you run into difficulties later. I've tested it extensively prior to listing for sale. All mechanical clocks take a little bit of setting up (fitting the pendulum and putting in beat) but I can send instructions and assist on the phone. Collection is obviously preferred and is easy to arrange from near Hyde Manchester (we are near the top of the M67). You'll be able to see it working and get a cup of tea. We do have experience of posting these, although the time and cost of proper packaging does add up. Please note the glass can get damaged in transit (at your risk) although we work very hard to limit the chances of that happening.
