Seller: anniesbarn (3,458) 100%, Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 112220171002 Antique oak bench, with a rather strange wooden mechanism attached - the wooden block on the top of the bench rotates and lifts up, and is attached to a wooden pole underneath the bench that moves up and down and from side to side. The pole is attached to the underside of the bench with a metal hook. The 'back' legs are joined with a metal stretcher that has nails sticking up from the top, which presumably had some purpose, maybe combing wool or similar? The dealer that I bought this from thought that it may have some sort of textile or wool connection, but other than that, to be honest, I'm not sure what its original purpose was. All ideas gratefully received! All that said, it's a lovely piece of folk art furniture, strangely tactile, with rustic good looks. 80" long x 10" wide on the top, 16" wide at the base of the legs, and 18" high. In good condition, with no rot or worm, but with some movement in the joints (back and forth, NOT side to side). Collection welcome, we are two minutes from junction 26 M62 (West Yorkshire), or we can deliver within the Yorkshire/Lancashire area - please send your postcode for a quote. It's too big for one pallet space, so our courier would start at £96. You are most welcome to source your own transport - a 'man with a van' would probably be cheaper than palletised delivery. Condition: Good physical condition, some movement in joints., Age: 1800-1899, Product Type: Benches, Original/Reproduction: Original, Material: oak
