Seller: lokidempsey (4,108) 100%, Location: Birmingham, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 252634622259 RESTO-MOD CUSTOM DISPLAY CABINET'Restored & Recreated' vintage piece of furniture - Ideal for display your collectables*** BEST OFFERS WELCOME - COLLECTION ONLY (Birmingham B23) ***Classic 'feature piece' which makes a real statement with beautiful lines and classic simple design - Practical but something a little bit different, I restore and recreate furniture as a hobby and I'm chuffed with how this one has turned out. I enjoy restoring and recreating these pieces as they are not only functional but really stylish and with a bit of work can be given a new life, rather than just the boring flat packed option. I had the idea of transforming a traditional piece by finishing it with a unique paintjob, similar to one I have used on some of my hand painted boxes (you'll find them in my other listings!), so I got hold of a piece of furniture and set to work. The unit is the top half of a 1930's Oak Bureau Bookcase with lead glazed doors, it had the usual dark brown varnish finish, but I figured with a bit of work it work make a unique storage display cabinet for figures or other collectables. I removed the shelves & doors and stripped all of the woodwork, making various repairs to minor damage to parts of the wood (including filling in lock/key cut outs), then painted the whole thing a blue base colour. With sponges, brushes and using a 'speckled' effect of orange/grey/blue & white I've created a one-off paint job that was then finished with a thin coat of Matt Clear Polyurethane to leave a hardwearing finish. I added six small plastic bun feet to the base and a pair of modern Brushed Stainless Steel handles to the doors, hinges and catches were cleaned with screws replaced. Please note: Being the top part of an original piece the unit wasn't designed as a stand alone piece. When the doors open the unit can tip forward, so I do recommend that this is pinned to the wall that it goes against (easily done by drilling two small holes through the top of the back panel and screwing to the wall)The figures shown in the last two photos are for display purposes only and are not included, just to give buyers an idea. Overall Dimensions (approx):Height: 99cmWidth: 89cmDepth: 26cm I have tried my best to accurately describe this item, please bare in mind this isn't a professional restoration more of a homemade resto-mod, but I am pleased with the result, (there are some imperfections like one door a little stiff, etc...), the images provided should give buyers a good understanding of what they are buying but if you require further images or would like to view the item before buying or making a Best Offer, please get in touch.
