Editorial red hardback, worn, spine frayed at head and tail with a couple of small dents/tears, two contemporary newspaper cuttings pasted in and neat handwritten note at the end of the Content, 3cm tear on margin of Introduction pp.vii-viii (no loss), few occasional traces of dust, overall a good, firm copy. Profusely illustrated by diagrams and including 5 large folded plates.
In this edition the Author rewrote many portions of the work and gave a description and drawings of the latest form of Wheatstone's automatic apparatus.
Famous and classic handbook on electric telegraphy, covering terrestrial and submarine telegraphs. It had been published in several editions, adopted by the Post Office and by the Department of Telegraphs for India, becoming the standard work on the subject in the 19th century, also translated in other languages. Culley was the Engineer-in-Chief of Telegraphs to the Post Office at that time.
