Seller: redcar12345 (414) 100%, Location: Cheshire, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 351915389116 Antique Oak Longcase Grandfather Clock William Woodley For auction we have an early antique oak longcase clock which has a wonderful Pagoda top. It is difficult to convey through photographs the wonderful patina of the oak which can only be gained through age. The clock dial is signed 'William Woodley'. If we start with the hood this is finished with a superb Pagoda which can be removed. Below this is a deep cornice finished with dentile work. The hood door is flanked by half turned columns which are integral with the hood door and to the rear are quarter turner columns. Moving down to the trunk, the door is full length and shaped to the top. The base is raised on a plinth. The dial is arched and has the subsidiary date dial to the arch. It is signed 'William Woodley'. The movement is a time piece and is 8 day. To wind the clock you have to press a lever on the right side of the dial which reveals the winding hole. The clock is complete with it's weight and pendulum. The movement is nice and clean and is happily ticking away. The clock dates to circa 1760 / 1770 so we believe it to be by William Woodley of Kineton, Warks who is listed in 'Watchmakers & Clockmaker of the World Volume 2 by Brian Loomes' :'WOODLEY William. Kineton. Warks c1770 Clockmaker'. We also believe this to be a centre second sweep, but the second hand is lacking. The approximate dimensions of the case are: - 83.5 inches high - 22.5 inches wide across the widest part of the hood - 12 inches across the trunk - 19 inches wide across the plinth Condition: The clock is in very nice condition as can be seen from the photographs. There are a few knocks marks commensurate with age. The are a few piece of the dentile work lacking. The backboard has had some repairs. The dial is in lovely original condition.
