This is a solid silver fob medal that has the name J. Metcalf engraved on the front. The LION stood right on top with the suspension loop...a very IMPRESSIVE medal if ever there was one.   It reads 1 Mile Welsh Championship August 5th 1902, Presented by the The Eadie Manufacturing Co., Redditch.  It is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1902 with maker's mark V&S. The front has a fine gold wreath around the central circle of engraved wording. The LION can be seen from both sides....a really worth while medal from a top bicycle manufacturer of the day.  So I am sure some of you know who Eadie Manufacturing Co were... for those like myself that dont know.. they were Bicycle makers as well as needle makers, motor bikes and small arms ... Eadie made parts for Enfield rifles for the British Army .. during this time they called their new bicycle the " ENFIELD " More history and take overs and finally the famous BSA took them over in 1907...then Raleigh in 1957. What a really fantastic medal to win in 1902.   Metcalf won some outstanding 9ct - 15ct - 18ct gold medals which sold really at their scrap value which is considerably high at the moment and by the time there is % commission on top and then ebay selling fees and more fees there wasn't much left in the gold medals so I never bought them.. I just hope they have not gone to the actual SCRAP melt pot as the DUNLOP medal was superb.. in the shape of spoked bike wheel with a Crown on the top it was presented to him for First win for using DUNLOP TYRES .. and another presented by Raleigh Cycles gold medal as well was sold.. but Ive not got them... you may well see them come thru ebay but I doubt it.    Some of you may think this is a hefty price for a silver medal.... if this was an enamel badge advertising the Eadie bicycle it would have this sort of price tag... its very rare and very few will survive with their name on it.. and presented by them its such a great cycling related item. I sell tin button badges of this period for this sort of price so a SILVER medal is cheap for this asking price. Find me another !! In collectable condition with normal signs of age and use wear. No damage to the silverware from what I can see. Please see pictures for more details. It measures approx. 50mm x 40mm. It weighs approx. 24.3g.
