Typical work of well-known French artist Parant, who was especially known for his miniatures executed in the technique of cameo imitation.
Louis-Bertin Parant was born in 1768 in Mers, department Indre (France) and died in 1851 in Paris. He was a pupil of Jean Leroy and was chiefly a miniaturist and painter on porcelain. He also tried his hand as a lithographer. He exhibited at the Salon between 1800-1851, and in 1806 and 1808 he obtained exhibition medals. Many years long he worked for the factory of Sévres. Schidlof writes about Parant: "he was an artist of great talent and his works are very much sought after. His miniatures are faultlessly drawn".
