The Spectrum Communications Nomad VHF/UHF Scanner Aerial is a derivative of the Garex Nomad Aerial and is loosely based on the 3/4 wave Slim Jim omni-directional aerial developed by Fred Judd G2BCX.
The original J configuration of the Slim Jim was later modified by the addition of another 1/2 wave section connected to the main element at its top and coming back down to within a centimetre or 2 or the 1/4 wave ground referenced stub, making it into a squashed letter G.
The Receiving element is made from 300 Ohm ribbon feeder connected into a stub tube which doubles as a waterproof coupling box. It is similar to the Slim-G for 2 metres but has the coax feedpoint deliberately offset to give wideband operation and the addition of a reactive element in the coupling box allows the aerial to work down to 25MHz and up to 500MHz.
The Nomad Scanner Aerial can be used portable, suspended from a gutter or a tree, or indoors supported from a cup hook in a loft or from a ceiling. It is supplied with 4 metres of RG58 cable normally terminated with a BNC connector. If you want a PL259 connector instead then please leave a 'Note to Seller' requesting the PL259 fitting.
It is intended to be hung vertically from the woven nylon cord supplied and can be used indoors or out but would advise adding a little silicon sealant to the entry points of the twin feeder if the aerial is to be used long term outside.
