A superb George III mahogany dwarf linen press, cabinet or cupboard. The upper part has a moulded overhanging cornice above a blind fret carved frieze. The frieze hides a 'secret drawer' that slides out. The fielded panel doors open to reveal four sliding trays. The lower part has two deep drawers with brass swan neck handles and stands on ogee bracket feet. The press dates most likely from the 1770s to 1780s.
The pleasing proportions, deep colour, and restrained decorative details make this a very stylish piece, in my view superior to most surviving examples of the period.
It is in very good condition with signs of use commensurate with its age.
124 cm wide by 62 cm deep by 158 cm high. The somewhat smaller dimensions and strong design make it suitable for both modern and traditional interiors.
The press displays beautifully and viewing in Edinburgh welcome. Courier delivery to anywhere in the UK at very reasonable rates. Please see other ads for more antique furniture, lighting and modern design.
