Seller: deccorama (1,013) 100%, Location: Beccles, Ships to: GB & many other countries, Item: 391630148755 Up for sale here is a very unusual and rare milking/3 legged stool that has been hand made and then ornately decorated from top to bottom with little hand hammered dimples. Central to the seat a basket filled with honeysuckle has been carved, with a horse shoe and ribbon. This stool has an amazing patina and has been a valued family heirloom until recently, when its' owner passed away with no relatives that showed an interest in it, so it is looking for an appreciative home. This is a Victorian or Georgian betrothal stool rich with sentimental symbolism and would have been presented to a young lady by her fiance - it depicts a horse shoe (the right way up by antique standards, which we would consider to be upside down), a symbol of good fortune for a forthcoming marriage, a ribbon, a symbol of unity through the act of tying together, and honeysuckle, which represented a binding and strengthening union of two people through its clinging growing habit. The Victorians believed that a single woman who was presented with honeysuckle by a suitor would be married within a year. This stool originates from a rural 1600s Suffolk farm house; it is certainly an antique from 1900 or before but the exact date is not clear. This would look great sitting by your woodburner and is useful as it is the right height for sitting to toast a chestnut or two on an open fire! I hope that the photos show that this stool has a lot of character - it is entirely robust and perfectly suitable for sitting on in front of the fire etc, but it has some historic guaranteed old woodworm holes - no current woodworm - and an old small crack to the seat- all common for these items which were regularly used. The woodworm has been treated to be on the safe side but looks to have been from decades ago anyway. It would be extremely easy to cover the few woodworm holes due to the dimpled carving, but I did not want to affect the excellent patina in any way. There are plenty of pretty modern stools out there that are perfect, but this is a piece of history that has aged gracefully! Please see the photos; they form part of the description. The item has been not been cleaned, to preserve the patina, but it is clean anyway with no smells etc. Please bid with confidence and view my feedback, where you will see that I have received positives for other items from this collection. Items will be securely packed and sent swiftly by a trackable service. In the unlikely event that my description does not meet your expectations, I am happy to accept returns provided that items are returned in the same condition as I sent them and are sent via a trackable service, at the purchaser's expense.
