Attractive classic wrigglework dial centre characteristic of Oxfordshire quaker clockmakers ‘Boys and Crown’ spandrels held in place with original iiron square headed bolts. Good quality engraving throughout the dial. The chapter ring is signed Gilkes Adderbury, probably Richard . Loomes lists Gilkes as being born in 1715 and working until 1787. Please see images below. Series of small holes around the edge of the dial may be where a brass edging strip was fitted to make the dial fit a case with a larger dial opening. Two small holes at V anVII of unknown purpose.Thin metal at 3 of the 4 cornrs has cracked away slightly. Otherwise as seen.
