Seller: sossijchops (146) 100%, Location: London, Ships to: GB, Item: 262740545403 With reluctance we have decided to sell our beautiful Colonial Indian bed, which we bought from an antique dealer in Australia 15 years ago. This is a highly unusual antique bed from the British Raj era - when the colonial ‘rulers’ had very grand tastes indeed. It was made in the 1800s from hardwood, either Burmese teak, mahogany or rosewood, by the finest craftsmen. The bed is unusual for many reasons - not least the impressive provenance, but also that it is a ‘large single’ which is extremely rare. The bed would have been made for a very important child of either a General or Officer of the British Raj, or someone with Indian nobility. You can find Colonial Raj beds on the internet - but not single ones! The carvings are exquisite, as are the turned spindles and polished brass fixings. There is a small religious cross carved into the centre of the headboard, surrounded by leaves and ferns. This really is a lovely, sturdy bed and we are only selling as it simply does not get used. There is a child out there somewhere who would adore this bed! These beds were designed to be transportable and are fairly easy to dismantle and put together. If you know anything about this era, and the provenance of these beds, you will already know what you are looking for. Buyer will need to arrange shipping or pick up from London E125HG.
