Suitable for framing, the average page size including text is approx 12" x 9.25" or 30cm x 23.5cm. Actual picture size is approx 10" x 7" or 25.5cm x 17.5cm. Text description beneath the picture (subject to any spelling errors due to the OCR program used) GOUROCK THE "sunset place," as it is affectionately called by its admirers, is the gateway to the sea-lochs and islands of the West of Scotland, and its comparative proximity to Glasgow (35 minutes by train) makes Gourock a favourite coast resort with Scotsmen. From practically every point alluring and inspiriting views of Scottish scenery are obtainable—the Firth of Clyde, laden with ships from every corner of the world, and beyond, the sweet green slopes and misty peaks of the Highland hills. Facing the west, with its glorious panorama, the extraordinary sunsets beloved of artists have earned for Gourock the title with which this description opens. Gourock has sprung, within the last few years, from a humble fishing hamlet into a burgh whose civic enterprise, cleanliness and sanitation render it an example to all its neighbours. The old part of the town is sheltered in a haven, and the modern portion rises in terraces from the sea to the broad moors of Renfrewshire. Gourock's pie-eminent attraction to the holiday-maker is the facility afforded for rapid, cheap and frequent communication with the popular tourist resorts in the west. The Firth steamers (confessedly the finest of their kind in the world) ply all day long at the toll-free pier of Gourock. For a few pence the opposite shores can be reached, and Holy Loch, Loch Goil and Loch Long are all easily attained. It is the "jumping-off" place for Argyllshire, Bute; The Kyles of Bute, Loch Fyne, and even for the Hebridean Isles. Boating, either by sail, paddle or motor, are the most obvious amusements of Gourock; but there are recreations of a less briny flavour. An excellent bowling club, and a 9-hole golf course, are to be found on one of the shelves of Kempock, and the vicinity abounds in walks and drives.
