Japanese Antique Ko Seto ware Sake cup Natural glaze Kamakura period PCP170.
This is a Ko Seto ware Sake cup.
Era: Kamakura Period
This is a very well-refined, fine and sticky clay. A thin layer of transparent glaze covers the surface, and the 'Mikomi' — the interior — has been glazed with an ash glaze, resulting in a beautiful green surface. I hesitated between Sanage because of the high-quality clay with a luxurious feel, but it is likely from Seto as there are no black specks in the clay. There are repairs, but it is not 'Yobitsugi'; it is original. It seems to have been an excavated item that was repaired. The repaired areas have a settled appearance with a certain degree of age, indicating it has likely been owned by a previous collector for a long time. Such sake vessels are among the more expensive items for Japanese antique collectors.
