Seller: john.7810 (175) 98.5%, Location: musselburgh, East Lothian , Ships to: GB, Item: 262733513826 COLLECT IN PERSON AND PAY ONLY £1500 LESS THE FUEL COST OF YOUR RETURN JOURNEY £1.350 When I bought this bench it was covered in countless layers of white gloss and undercoat paint.I do not like the process of dipping wood to remove the paint. .I believe it takes away the wrinkles of age and shrinks the joints The intricate carvings are not stuck onto the panels or table top/ bench backrest they are painstakingly hand carved , imagine the care to create the depth of the pattern across so large an item. it would appear the seat hinge assembly has been modified at some time after the creation . I have had the opinion of several experienced and qualified antique traders over the near 4 and a half decades in my possession even at the time i acquired it it was considered a rare original piece and it is was even hard to find a good Victorian copy at that time as it is now.It was usual to see the cpies were only a seat and this table top is carved on both sides with a different pattern and doubles as the backrest It can cost as much today for a good reproduction , I have had this on sale for some time but am asking a price considered by many not out of the way at £2000.00. I HAVE REDUCED THIS BY 500.00 TO PAY FOR A RESTOTATION This came from an old monastery on the outskirts of a small village PRESTON PANS formerly known as Saltpans in the county of East Lothian.. In its day the Pans as it is affectionately called was a hub of industry , fishing, coal mining engineering and panning for salt,The monks of Newbattle abbey had a smallholding on the outskirts of the pans on a road known locally as the managers brae,.It was over 4 decades since it was french polished with black base in the lacquer so you can see the wear from 40 odd years of polishing, shown by the lighter shades in the images.. no wood worm past or present the base trims were added when i restored it .It is no surprise they didn't stand the test of time.the left side trim disappeared during a house move.I have never got round to replacing it, for further information or more images mail me delivery can be arraigned but it is preferable and cost effective buyer pays cash on collection .mail me for number to arrainge further visit or call to veiw or purchase TABLE/ BACKREST 107 CM X 53 CM SEAT 96 CM X 40 CM HEIGHT SEAT 40 CM TABLE TOP 75 CM SEAT TO TABLE TOP 30 CM 4 POSTS 23 CM ARM RESTS 7 CMCOLLECTION IN PERSON ONLY £1500 LESS THE FUEL COST OF YOUR RETURN JOURNEY Condition: this was hand stripped when I BOUGHT IT OVER 4 DECADES AND STAINED WITH THE SHELLAC COATS IT IS IN NEED OF THAT PROCESS BUT SIMPLY RUBBED DOWN AND POLISHED THIS HAS ONLY BEEN POLISHED WITH BEESWAX IN ALL THE TIME IN MY CARE 300.00 OFF FOR POLISHING HAS BEEN USED AS IT WAS MEANT TO BE FUNCTIONAL BUT IT HAS SERVED WELL NOW WANTS AN EASY DECORATIONAL FACELIFT, Product Type: Benches, Original/Reproduction: Original, Style: Gothic, Age: Pre-1800, Material: Oak
