Firstly what I know about Japanese art would fit on the back of envelope so please do forgive any errors in this listing! Any expert help much appreciated.
It is a black and white Japanese woodblock print of two cats and a butterfly. I'm assuming the one with the bow is a girl and the rather lecherous looking one behind is a boy! Very faintly depicted to the left is a smaller figure of a cat playing with a ball.
It is printed on very fine laid paper- see my last photograph which shows the reverse of the paper held against the light revealing the wire lines.
Is lightly age toned, signs of handling at the edges, a small surface mark on the larger cat's neck. One or two irregularities in the paper which I assume are original.
Estimated date is mid nineteenth century. Unsigned.
The sheet measures 34 x 25cm.
Please note I am also listing some other woodblock prints of cats for auction- see my other listings.
Postage £4 in the UK, £8 to mainland Europe and £10 to the USA and Asia. These prices are for the print to be sent flat.
