Seller: gosportclocks (193) 100%, Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire, Ships to: Americas & many other countries, Item: 322338573547 Fine Georgian mantle clock by Grange& Bétout of Paris with quality round brass movement by French maker Pons. Certainly of the period early 1830's. Silk suspension, outside count wheel, bell striking mantle clock in a fine hardwood veneer case (Rose wood?) with inlay and lovely shaping. (case screws modern as were missing prior to restoration) Excellent working condition, been reliable for several years (our clock for the last 6 years, no problems in that time). Over 15 winds each side from completely unwound. Early quality mantle clocks were given larger (than the later French examples) main spring barrels so that they would run way beyond the 8 day period in order to maintain the most accuracy for the top end of the winding (Mainspring clocks lose regulation nearing the end of the week as the spring loses power unless they are designed to compensate this - i.e. Chronometers). This early French clock can keep ticking for 20 days, so do remember to wind once a week (or once every 12days as it keeps excellent time within the first 12, which is beyond the 8 day period expected for good time keeping). Pendulum, movement & dial all original to case and serial numbered to each other no. 2497. The serial number on the painted dial (with all its original brass 'Roman' numerals) is hidden / stamped on the reverse of the metal plate. The silver bell is little larger than the later, more common ones and the slender brass hammer is also worth noting amongst other things in the photos. Case & dial fully restored. ( J. Birkett is a case restorer for the National trust, top London antique retailers & the like - feel free to google and closely study our photos). (very slight bow to top left retained - see photo no.10) Movement has no issues, well maintained, circa 1827 (original and not over restored - Important clock, so no amateur restorers please). Beautiful quality clock that would make an ideal Wedding present, anniversary or special gift. Very rare and unusual black painted dial with solid brass numerals - restored with original name still maintained. Runs well and in good order. Working condition, Key supplied. If you are within the Solent area, then a 1 year guarantee is free with free delivery & set-up - Important 8’day clock; no amateur restorers please, should not need any work doing for sometime. Condition: Georgian, Excellent working condition, been reliable for several years. Pendulum, movement & dial all original to case and serial numbered to each other. Case & dial restored. Movement in original condition, serviced - not over restored. Full retail condition., Age: Antique, Pre-1900, Type: Mantle / Library clock, Style/ Origin/ Theme: Georgian, Features: 8-Day
