Philips 470A Art Deco Valve Radio from 1930s
Having successfully shipped a wooden radio weighing 15kg I've revised this auction from collection only to postage. The radio will be packed to withstand the impact of close-range artillery fire. The box will be marked with the appropriate warnings but if it is jolted in transit (with shock risk to the valves) I cannot be held responsible once it leaves me and these are the terms of this auction.
Happy to drive up to an hour in any direction from Rochdale to hand over. If you are prepared to do the same you can be two hours away and get it in person.
19" long x 11" high x 8.5" deep
This WORKS in the sense that it plugs in and comes on when you switch it on with the left front knob. The radio warms up and gives a low hum. I’ve twiddled the other knob at the front and those at each side but I can’t get a radio station. The fact that it comes on suggests a minimal amount of fiddling and restoration will get it working OK.
The Bakelite is very good. No cracks. The only chip I can see is on the back edge, a teensy one about the size of a pinhead, indicating it might have happened during manufacture.
I’ve given it a quick polish but it should come up really nice. Minimal light surface marks here and there. One diagonal mark on top is about three inches long but only really shows up in the light. Another minor curved ring mark looks like it might come off with appropriate cleaner and Bakelite restorer. There are odd micro pin pricks of emulsion paint which nudge off with a thumbnail. Really sound case overall - which is why I bought it around 30 years ago.
Cloth is intact. Back panel is intact and is nice and tidy and located by original screws.
UK bidders only.
