ROVER 2000
One of the most interesting cars to appear for
many years, the Rover 2000 was announced
last October and deliveries are now well under
way. It takes its place in a very exacting
section of the market, where prospective owners
expect something rather exclusive and well
above average in quality, handling and equip-
ment yet the price cannot be much higher
than that of the large mass-produced cars. In
our experience it is a car that will never tire its
owner in either sense because it can cover long
and trying journeys fast and with relaxed ease,
and it also seems to get better as you live with
it and become really familiar with it.
car
We expect it to gain a reputation for being a
very safe car because the handling characteristics
and adhesion (for which the tyres may take
some credit) are outstandingly good. The
unusual de Dion rear axle arrangement offers
many of the advantages of an independent rear
suspension as well as of a good conventional
live axle. The standards of construction and of
detail finish are high.
The Rover will not be judged the roomiest
or fastest 2-litre saloon, nor is its four-cylinder
engine the quietest and smoothest, yet taken as
a whole the car is a practically unbeatable
combination. Interior style and appointments
are original and luxurious. One used to hear
about owner-driver cars; this is one such
design, for a great deal has been done to make
sure the driver will be satisfied and relaxed.
At present there is one model only, the four-
door, four-seater saloon.
