Rare Robert Venturi Alessi 1988
Cuckoo clock Kuckucksuhr
Designed by the world’s most famous
Architect- Robert Venturi
A very rare Cuckoo Clock, created for
Alessi – by one of the world’s most leading architects & designer Robert
Venturi
This Venturi Cuckoo clock is most probably the best example
(due to its fantastic condition) that anyone could hope to find (other than finding a brand new boxed away -
never used one ) - so would say most would struggle to find one better than this.
It’s not new, but obviously from viewing, its condition it can be assumed
means it’s spent the majority of its life boxed away - hence the fantastic condition.
If you've ever viewed one of these before (which I have ), you can
tell that this one really has had only very minimal use - this you can tell
by the Acorns, body & back + the interior working, as all are A*****.
Working condition:
- It’s in 100% full (tried & tested )
working order (a 24hr clock ) & the cuckoo sounds as & when
it should / on the hour & 1/2 hr (also to mention the cuckoo is in
superb condition ).
- This is a hand operated clock - pull down the acorns & swing the pendulum & it then sets off going - every 1/2 to the hour the door opens & cuckoo appears to 'cuckoo'.
Box:
- The clock comes in its original box (again
for a collector having an original box is A*** desired ): which
includes: all original paperwork: clock instructions, inspection
certificates plus original plastic bags for the hardware.
- Box exterior also has its original label (see
photo) but should mention the box has a bit of wear / dents - as can
be seen in the photos.
Interior of clock
- It’s in superb condition (looks as good as
the day it was made ) & the back wood/ door plate/ panel also bears
the original Venturi sticker .
Exterior of clock:
- Fantastic condition (most collectors would
struggle to find a better example & could only achieve this by finding
a never used boxed away item ).
Any wear or damage, I would describe as:
- The chain: has in some places lost some gilt/
darkened.
- Acorns: are in fantastic condition, if you’ve ever
seen a used Venturi cuckoo clock - often the Acorns lose their glossy
coat, discolour (yellow) & dull down, often with major flecks of paint
missing. But this one are I'd say 98% near to original condition - glossy
white, with only just a few flecks of paint missing (see photos ).
- Paintwork / roof / sides: Are superb, hardly
any blemishes, but should mention as wood is natural - slight expanding of the paint has occured / paint separation is apparent (see roof photos ), where it looks like,
due to natural movement of the wood - shrinking & contracting (but
would like to emphasize when viewing the photos there's been no repairs or
parts falling off or about to fall off or re stuck & this is in its
original untouched form) .
Hopefully any viewers will be able to zoom into the photos to get a closer
detailed view (if not I could always send the photos individually if
required ).
