The clock is in perfect working order having recently been cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home. If we start with the hood, this has swan necks which have lovely brass pateras. Pretty full turned columns flank the hood door. The door is mahogany and boxwood inlaid and has a pretty little brass knob. Above the hood door is nicely inlaid. If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely shaped door. The centre is inlaid with an oval containing flowers in an urn. The door is complete with it's lock and key and has a pretty brass escutcheon. The trunk door is flanked by canted corners with lovely fine stringing detailing and lovely half turned finials to the top and bottom of the canted section which sets it off nicely. Above the door is mahogany veneered which has been inlaid with very fine stringing. Then below the door is an applied panel of mahogany which has been inlaid with very fine stringing. The base has canted front corners and is cross banded in mahogany to the top and bottom. It has has a shaped applied panel which is cross banded in mahogany. Finally the base is raised on ogee bracket feet. The dial with maker’s name of 'JAS SLATER UTTOXETER', has the four corners adorned with beautiful scenes incorporating rabbits. The arch has been beautifully painted a young maiden with a basket sitting below . There is one 'James Slater, Uttoxeter' listed in ‘Clockmakers & Watchmakers of Central England by Joseph McKenna': 'Slater, James High St, Uttoxeter, Staffs 1828-41 Clock & Watchmaker Bradley St, Uttoxeter, Staffs A second son of Joseph Slater, probably initially working for his father. In 1842 a movement maker'. The movement is 8 day duration and is in prefect working order having been recently cleaned and serviced, and has the most wonderful fretted fingers. DIMENSIONS: The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are: - 87.5 inches (222 cm) high - 23.75 inches (60 cm) across the widest part of the hood - 16.25 inches (41 cm) across the trunk - 20.75 inches (53 cm) across the widest part of the base. As can be seen from these dimension this is a clock of lovely proportions. CONDITION: The clock is in wonderful condition. The movement is lovely and clean and in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced.
