I have had this for at least 30 years I know of possibly longer and kept it safe so it didn't get lost. But it did get lost in house move. But recently found it again.
There has been 2 x 1971 recently sold and thought to be very rare indeed.
Correct me if I am wrong but I have done a fair bit of research on the mistake of the Royal mint.
Rare 2p from 1971 sells for staggering £800 (sold in 2015)
Silver 2p piece sells for £1,357: ( sold in 2014) Rare coin found among change in 1988 sells for 67,850 times its face value
The coin is thought to be one of a number produced in 1971 after an error was thought to have been made during the minting process.
It is thought the coin, very few of its kind in existence, was made from a cupro-nickel blank that was accidentally left inside a machine used to mint currency.
Shortly before it was made a series of South African coins had been made from cupro-nickel and it is thought the blank might have been from that batch.
The coin pictured in my photos is the actual coin I have.
