Seller: robsantiques (534) 100%, Location: Birmingham, West Midlands, Ships to: Americas, Europe, Asia, AU, Item: 192041923059 Here we have a very fine early example of a Brewster & Ingraham Steeple Clock with a 30 hour mechanism, dated to 1845.Elias Ingraham designed clocks case for a fellow named George Mitchell out of Bristol, Conn. from 1828 to 1830. He continued producing cases with Chauncey and Lawson C. Ives and his own company called Ingraham & Bartholomew from 1830 to 1833.In 1832 he sold out to J. C. Brown and started a new company with Chauncey Goodrich (Ingraham & Goodrich) in Bristol. Between 1833 and 1835 he began to experience financial problems, but still managed to purchase a shop in Bristol and manufacture clock cases as well as chairs and mirrors. This shop failed by 1840 but not before Elias designed the steeple clock case, which was a Gothic type case with a pointed roof. This case style became very popular and is listed as one of the important developments in the history of clocks.From the end of 1840 to 1844 worked at various place in Bristol. By 1844 he entered into a partnership with his brother Andrew and Elisha C. Brewster, called Brewster and Ingraham. This partnership ended in 1852.The clock and chimes are in working order, and comes with a key for winding, although it would benefit from a service.This is a very fine early example of the steeple clock style created and made famous by Ingraham, and actually made by Ingraham!Please remember that my items are mostly Antique or Vintage and always used, never new or in new condition.
