Seller: charlie-farlie (3,072) 100%, Location: Stowmarket, Ships to: GB, Item: 252658210866 It is my husband's wish that I continue to overhaul and sell our personal collection of Smiths and other makes of clocks on his behalf, in the same tradition as he has done for many years. Please read my notes at the end of the listing. Ladies and gentlemen, I have great pleasure in presenting for your perusal, a Smiths 8 day striking mantel clock that is rarely offered for sale. This model was in production from February 1954 until November 1955. I offer you “The Beverley” dated to 1954. I overhauled this clock for my husband in March of this year. The case is finished in a rich dark oak and has beautifully rounded top and the most curvaceous sweeping sides, leading down to the two chamfered feet. These protrude to the front and sides of the case. To the front, a hand tooled moulding runs along the base of the case resting gently on the tips of the feet. The case is in truly stunning condition for its age. There is a very minor discolouration on the top rear edge of the case but it can barely be seen and cannot be felt. This is mentioned in order to provide a totally honest and accurate description. There are no other blemishes worthy of mention. I have given the case a good clean and I have applied four coats of a top quality wax polish that is specially formulated for my husband by a French polisher. I have not “tarted it up” and I have not smothered it in any form of scratch covering polish in an effort to apply an artificial shine for the benefit of the camera or in an attempt to portray the clock for something that it very clearly and obviously isn’t; a brand new clock. The dimensions for this stunning clock are 7.75” high by 9.75” wide by 4.5” deep. The movement is the ever popular and reliable F3A striking unit that was fitted to countless thousands of Smiths clocks. This movement is dated to June 1954. Using my BHI training and under my husband’s VERY watchful eyes, I stripped the movement down and ultrasonically cleaned it, using the very best fluids to obtain the very best results. I inspected the movement for wear and I found just one bush that had some very minor wear, which was obviously not acceptable. I therefore replaced this bush using traditional and time honoured methods, taught to me by the BHI and my husband making its appearance virtually invisible. This bush was the escape wheel bush in the time train on the rear plate. No previous re-bushing had ever been undertaken and no further re-bushing will be required for many years to come. I have replaced both mainsprings using a genuine Smiths new/old stock stainless steel replacement for the time train and a pattern stainless steel replacement for the striking train. I then polished all of the bushes and pivots, again using traditional and time honoured methods. Once I had completed this work, I reassembled, aligned, tested and lubricated the movement. My husband always insists on using the very highest quality and finest grades of horological oils and I am using these same oils in my overhauls. This intensive treatment should provide the new owner with accuracy and reliability for many years to come. Since I completed this overhaul in March of this year, the clock has run without fault, keeping superb time as part of our personal collection. The clock strikes every thirty minutes on a coiled steel gong with an hour count at the top of the hour. Obviously, this superb clock will be supplied with its original key, pendulum and a comprehensive instruction sheet to enable the simple task of commissioning after delivery to be as effortless as possible for the new owner. I will also include a photocopy of the original Smiths instructions. The dial consists of silver coloured raised Roman numerals, set against the oak backdrop of the case. The glass is housed in a chrome bezel that is in excellent condition. There is no "drop" whatsoever on the hinge when the bezel is opened and a strong clasp holds it correctly closed. The image is completed with silver coloured filigree hands. This is a truly superb clock that will look fabulous in any setting. It has a very soothing tick and a very mellow strike and will quickly become a welcome addition to any home. Notes Until I have fully completed my BHI training as an horologist, some, but not all of the clocks that we will be listing over the coming weeks and months will have been overhauled on our behalf by a superb, highly skilled and fully trained horologist who, like us, is a member of the British Horological Institute (BHI). She is a friend and was also trained in using traditional methods, and comes from a long line of horologists. The remainder of the clocks will have been overhauled and photographed, either by myself or by my husband when he was well enough to do them. We believe we are the first clock restorers on eBay UK to offer a full twelve month written warranty on all fully overhauled clocks, with a free 24 hour courier service for our valued customers. All of our clocks leave here in perfect working order unless otherwise stated. The clock will be securely packed for despatch by 24 hour courier FREE OF CHARGE within one day of receiving payment. Collection in person is, of course, welcome if you are local enough with a payment in cash if you so wish. A tracking number is always provided. Please note that I book my courier through Interparcel. They require a phone number BEFORE I can make the booking. I would therefore be very grateful if you could provide this when completing checkout. Please note that it is not always possible for our couriers to provide a next day delivery to customers in Scotland, Northern Ireland or outside the mainland UK. Most of the clocks that I offer for sale are a minimum of 50 years old and by their very nature will have the odd minor marks here and there that would be totally commensurate with their age. I will always point out anything untoward and while I always provide several photographs in the description, I am always happy to provide more images should you require them. I can always be contacted by e-mail, phone or Skype should you encounter any problems either with the setting up or at any time in the future. I will always be delighted to assist you in any way I possibly can. So please bid with total confidence and you can rest assured of the very best in after care service should you ever need it. My Husband has written four useful guides for both bidders and sellers on eBay, covering a range of subjects. These can be easily accessed by clicking onto the charlie-farlie user id and scrolling down to the bottom of the page. I hope that you find them informative, useful and interesting. Here is a little note on bush polishing that I am including. An eBay user read somewhere on eBay that bushes can be over-polished, resulting in the need for re-bushing the entire movement. This can happen if you polish a bush with a polishing broach. We DON'T!! We use an ultra-fine specialised compound and pegwood that removes nothing more than the decades of tarnish. This is a traditional method that is still taught to this day. No brass is removed from the bush and the size of the hole is NOT increased. I hope this clears up any issues and will put people's mind at ease. This listing is open to UK buyers only. Sorry, there are no exceptions to this!! Will all bidders with a feedback score of ten or less please contact me with a landline phone number BEFORE placing a bid, or your bid WILL be removed!! Thank you. If you have any questions, please ask AT LEAST 18 hours before the listing ends!!!
