Seller: charlie-farlie (3,070) 100%, Location: Stowmarket, Ships to: GB, Item: 252663375968 It is my husband's wish that I continue to overhaul and sell our personal collection of Smiths and other makes of clocks on his behalf, in the same tradition as he has done for many years. Please read my notes at the end of the listing. Ladies and gentlemen, I have great pleasure in presenting for your perusal from our personal collection, a superb Art Deco clock dated to around 1920 and produced by the Tower Clock Company. My husband overhauled this clock in November 2014 when he was in far better health than he is now. The Tower trademark didn’t appear on the clocks or the movements until around 1930 and prior to this, the movements just carried the words “Made in England” on the bottom of the rear plate. Clocks produced by Tower were of a very high quality. The case of this clock is finished in a medium honey oak and is truly excellent, considering that it is around ninety years old. The top is very steeply rounded with architectural sides in traditional stepped form. To the front, a number of different veneers were inlaid to form a superb pattern that is typical of the Art Deco period. The whole ensemble is mounted on a plinth with is supported with four small block feet. The pictures can describe this clock far better than I can and more images can be provided on request. My husband gave the clock a thorough clean in 2014 and applied five coats of a top quality wax polish that is specially formulated for him by a French polisher. He has not “tarted it up” nor has he smothered the case in a scratch covering polish in an effort to apply an artificial shine for the benefit of the camera, or in an attempt to portray the clock from something that it very clearly and obviously isn’t; a brand new clock! The case has since had two further coats of this top quality wax polish. The measurements for this very fine clock are: 12.5” wide by 8.25” tall by 4.75” deep. The movement is an 8 day striking unit by the Tower Clock Company, which my husband was told had links with Perivale, although we have not been able to confirm this. My husband has completely stripped the movement (please see the pictures) and ultrasonically cleaned it, using the very best fluids to obtain the very best results. When he inspected the movement, my husband found that it had been extremely well maintained and a number of bushes had previously been replaced. Further inspection revealed some very minor wear to five more bushes, he therefore replaced them using traditional and time honoured methods, making their appearance virtually invisible. The bushes were the star wheel bush and the gathering pallet wheel bush in the striking train on the front plate. The centre arbor bush and the intermediate wheel bush in the time train and the intermediate wheel bush in the striking train, all on the rear plate. It is always his policy to replace ALL mainsprings when overhauling a clock and this he has done using two new pattern stainless steel replacements. He then meticulously polished all of the pivots and bushes, again using traditional and time honoured methods that are still taught to this day. Once this had been completed, he reassembled, aligned, tested and lubricated the movement. He always believes in using the very highest quality and finest grades of horological oils available. This intensive treatment should provide the new owner with accuracy and reliability for many years to come. Since he overhauled this clock in November 2014, it has performed without fault, keeping superb time. Prior to this listing, I have thoroughly checked the movement, lubricated and tested it. The clock strikes every half hour on a coiled steel gong with an hour count on the hour. This fine clock will be supplied with its original cylindrical pendulum, a suitable key and a copy of our comprehensive instructions to enable the simple task of commissioning after delivery to be as effortless as possible for the new owner. The dial is another area where the quality of this clock stands out. It is a silvered brass pan dial with black wax filled numerals. To maintain originality, my husband decided not to re-silver the dial or to re-wax the numerals and minute track, so some minor wear in these areas is evident. It was very difficult to photograph the dial because of the reflections but it looks better in real life than it does in the pictures. The glass is housed in a chrome bezel which is in quite remarkable condition with no “drop” whatsoever to the hinge when opened. It is held correctly closed by its original clasp. The image is completed with blued steel spade style hands. This is a superb clock that will form the focal point in any setting. As it is a true Art Deco piece, it will look particularly at home on a lovely mantel piece or a suitable period chiffonier. Notes Until I have fully completed my BHI training as an horologist, many, but not all of the clocks that we will be listing from now on will have been overhauled on our behalf by a superb, highly skilled and fully trained horologist who, like us, is a member of the British Horological Institute (BHI). She is a friend and was also trained in using traditional methods, and comes from a long line of horologists. The remainder of the clocks will have been overhauled and photographed either by myself or by my husband when he was well enough to do them, as was this one. We believe we are the first clock restorers on eBay UK to offer a full twelve month warranty on all fully overhauled clocks, with a free 24 hour courier service for our valued customers. All of our clocks leave here in perfect working order unless otherwise stated. The clock will be securely packed for despatch by 24 hour courier FREE OF CHARGE within one day of receiving payment. Collection in person is, of course, welcome if you are local enough with a payment in cash if you so wish. A tracking number is always provided. Please note that I book my courier through Interparcel. They require a phone number BEFORE I can make the booking. I would therefore be very grateful if you could provide this when completing checkout. Please note that it is not always possible for our couriers to provide a next day delivery to customers in Scotland, Northern Ireland or outside the mainland UK. Most of the clocks that I offer for sale are a minimum of 50 years old and by their very nature will have the odd minor marks here and there that would be totally commensurate with their age. I will always point out anything untoward and while I always provide several photographs in the description, I am always happy to provide more images should you require them. I can always be contacted by e-mail, phone or Skype should you encounter any problems either with the setting up or at any time in the future. I will always be delighted to assist you in any way I possibly can. So please bid with total confidence and you can rest assured of the very best in after care service should you ever need it. My Husband has written four useful guides for both bidders and sellers on eBay, covering a range of subjects. These can be easily accessed by clicking onto the charlie-farlie user id and scrolling down to the bottom of the page. I hope that you find them informative, useful and interesting. Here is a little note on bush polishing that I am including. An eBay user read somewhere on eBay that bushes can be over-polished, resulting in the need for re-bushing the entire movement. This can happen if you polish a bush with a polishing broach. We DON'T!! We use an ultra-fine specialised compound and pegwood that removes nothing more than the decades of tarnish. This is a traditional method that is still taught to this day. No brass is removed from the bush and the size of the hole is NOT increased. I hope this clears up any issues and will put people's mind at ease. This listing is open to UK buyers only. Sorry, there are no exceptions to this!! Will all bidders with a feedback score of ten or less please contact me with a landline phone number BEFORE placing a bid, or your bid WILL be removed!! Thank you. If you have any questions, please ask AT LEAST 18 hours before the listing ends!!!
