Item:315129441117Ross-Shire, SCOTLAND – Highland Outdoor Sacrament - Mountain Christianity. TUCK’S – Ross-Shire, SCOTLAND – Highland Outdoor Sacrament - Mountain Christianity: Ross-shire (Scottish Gaelic: Siorrachd Rois) is a historic county in the Scottish Highlands. The county borders Sutherland to the north and Inverness-shire to the south, as well as having a complex border with Cromartyshire – a county consisting of numerous enclaves or exclaves scattered throughout Ross-shire's territory. Ross-shire includes most of Ross along with Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Dingwall is the traditional county town. The area of Ross-shire is based on that of the historic province of Ross, but with the exclusion of the many enclaves that form Cromartyshire. The card’s reverse informs: “Highland Out-door Sacrament. This is a singularly impressive scene when witnessed among the mountains in the remote Highlands. In olden times people gathered from far and near to these services, while those dwelling near kept open house for days. Only the older inhabitants partake in the Sacred Feast. They receive " tokens " beforehand from the elders, which they give up on taking seats at the Table. On the outskirts are many other worshippers.” This Divided Back Era (1907-15) postcard is in good condition. Raphael Tucks & Sons. Oilette. No. 7.
