Seller: clockbroker (110) 100%, Location: Mansfield, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 122210909379 UNUSUAL SMALL ENGLISH 8 INCH DIAL CLOCK - Railway or Nautical interest This is a very unusual and pretty English dial of small size clock constructed in solid walnut with a balance wheel movement. The case is extremely well made from solid timber with the back shaped like a tyre and in the centre is fixed a thin metal casing and written in pencil on the rear is "F S Venezia M Marco N7" which I think relates to Venezia Railway station in Venice. My initial thoughts on aquiring this clock was that it was originally made for a ship as it has a superb quality English made balance wheel movement similar to a ships clock but these are normally housed in brass cases but on reflection I am edging towards this clock being fitted in a train. Please note the image of the rear of the case which shows that originally there were three brackets to fasten the clock to the wall. The movement would function quite happily on the move and the wooden case would provide decoration but the way it is constructed would prevent unauthorised adjustment. My theory may well be incorrect but I make this suggestion as food for thought. Whatever its intended initial use it is a beautifully made clock with a lovely made 8 day duration going train movement with a large balance wheel escapement which can be adjusted for time keeping from the dial. I presume that a fusee movement would have been too large to fit in the case so a going train movement was chosen but please be assured that this movement is of the very finest quality and is dated 1833.It has just been professionally serviced and is in perfect working order. The 8 inch painted dial was in very poor condition when purchased and has restored by a specialist dial restorer. It is now in excellent condition but some of the original marks can still be seen. The dial is signed Yonge London. Please note that the dial is fastened into the case by four inset female threaded brass plates to which the dial screws directly as opposed to the normal method of using large screws direct into the wooden surround. The walnut case is in excellent condition and colour being similar to that of medium oak.It is very well made and twice as heavy as it looks. The beauty of these clocks are that they are so well made that they will give reliable service for many years, even in less than perfect environments such as kitchens. The blue steel hands are original as is the thick cast brass bezel and beveled glass. The original lock is present and working but the end of the bezel clip has been trimmed so does not engage on the lock although it is a good friction fit and does not open on its own.s This clock is original and genuine and I offer a full money back guarantee to this end. The size is also very nice being only 10 inches in diameter so that this item will fit in any home. The overall condition is excellent . The colour and shine are very nice. The images accurately show the item but I am happy to provide further pictures to interested parties. Viewings by interested parties or expert appraisers are welcomed. This clock is totally genuine and original and I offer a full money back guarantee to this end. If the buy it now price is paid in full I will deliver and set up the clock free of charge in England,Wales and the Scottish Lowlands.A 12 month guarantee will be provided in those circumstances.
