Seller: leftarmspinner127 (405) 100%, Location: Sutton, Ships to: GB, Item: 381864723358 Unusual Ansonia 'Cable Lever' Clock I bought this extremely fascinating Ansonia Clock a couple of years ago as a project for a clock maintenance course. I've failed badly and need to pass it on. It's an extremely fascinating clock which is about 9" in diameter and 3.5" deep. On the back is an unusual advert for the Ansonia Company. See photos. The dial is rather grubby but has the Ansonia logo and says Patent Lever Escapement. I believe that it dates back to about the late 1900's. I think that I read somewhere that it was designed to be used on trains and ships. I've also read that the case is made from mahogany and is in the form of a cable (hence the name). The case is quite badly scratched and the paintwork is slightly distressed. Basically I stripped the clock, cleaned it and bushed etc. where necessary. The main problem, however, was on the striking side where the count wheel had a couple of missing teeth. I made a couple of teeth but the arm which counts the beats was broken so I had to make a Heath Robinson repair (see photo). It still doesn't strike properly. The second hand didn't work. It wasn't deep enough. Again I effected a Heath Robinson repair (which does work) The clock is going extremely well but doesn't really chime the hour. It has made a few sorry sounds. The door doesn't catch properly. I'm sad to part with it but it bugs me that I can't get the striking right. It comes with an Ansonia key.
