Seller: sunlitglade (1,130) 100%, Location: Sudbury, Ships to: Americas, Europe, Asia, AU, Item: 182366136071 This Barbers Chair (could be displayed also at a Dentists or Tattoo Parlour) is made of solid oak and has an adjustable back rest which is on ratchets and a bar you lift up. It also has an adjustable head rest on an oak bar operated by a metal button on the back of the chair. The seat was sprung with coil springs and padded with horsehair. The chair probably dates from the early part of the 20th Century and seems very sturdy but it will need to be completely re-upholstered. I was told that the chair was in the Men's Hairdressers in Abridge, Essex, in the 1920's Abridge and I have have had it for about 20 years. Having downsized it is time for it to find a new home, perhaps as the centrepiece of a smart Hairdressing Salon, Dentists Waiting Room or Tattoo Parlour or in a stylish Dressing Room. It has a label which says the R. Hovenden & Sons Ltd, Everything for the Hairdresser, London. They were a wholesaler and exporter of pharmaceutical and hairdressing products. The company was established by Robert Hovenden in London in 1892. It sold a wide range of products such as razors, combs, perfumes, toiletries, mirrors and walking sticks (plus Barbers' Chairs). Acknowledgment and thanks to the anonymous author of this information on the Internet. Please see the condition description. I can give more information if required. It is listed as Buyer Collect but I would be happy for a buyer to arrange a courier or 'Man with a Van' and I may be able to obtain a quote for shipping but I would have to add money for the cost of the considerable amount of bubble wrap it would need. Please be aware that is is a heavy chair. I have opted out of eBay International Shipping as I understand that it can cost the buyers more. However, I have sold to 22 Countries so far and I am happy for it to be shipped at the buyers expense to other countries. Alternatively, it can be inspected prior to bidding or collected after purchase from near Sudbury in Suffolk, England Condition: The oak parts of the chair are in quite good order but the faux leather upholstery is in very poor condition. The springs are loose and the horsehair stuffing has partly come out. It will need complete re-upholstery but the buyer can have this done to match corporate or home colours. is of the, Style: Art Deco, Material: Oak and faux Leather, Original/Reproduction: Original, Age: 1900 -1930, Product Type: Barbers Chair
