A Fine and Original Victorian period Brass Bound and inlaid Burr Walnut Writing Box fitted with flush carrying handles and a side drawer. The interior lined in Morocco leather with gilded decoration, complete with original brass topped hand blown glass ink bottles. The side drawer retaining the original brass locking peg. The box retains the original keys to the box itself and to the interior flap which opens to reveal the three secret drawers accessed by lifting the pen tray divider to release the spring loaded cover. The inscribed brass plaque to the top reads: " Presented to Mr. Andrew Gemmel by the Young Ladies of his Sabbath Class in Free St. Mark's Church as a token of their high Esteem for his long & faithful instruction. 7th. Jan, 1876." It is very rare to find a box of this age with all its original fittings. There are no makers or retailers marks. English, circa 1870. Provenance : Passed down through the Gemmel family. Measurements : 500 mm. x 275 mm. x 205 mm. Condition : In original very good and condition, commensurate with age and use.
