Seller: milest8 (1,619) 100%, Location: Wimborne, Dorset, Ships to: GB, Item: 182367301188 This is an interesting gentlemans Victorian oak desk top radial edge stationery cabinet, dating from the late 19th century. It was made by Parkins & Gotto of Oxford Street, court stationers, who began business in 1840. This is a solid little cabinet, full of detail. There are numerous slots for papers, letters etc, the original white writing slate on the left, inlaid labels for stamps and matches, and the original (if somewhat discoloured)cards with the months and dates on - all are present. There is a drawer at the base with 2 smaller compartments that have lids, and the original campaign brass handle. There is 1 glass inkwell, plus a number of dipping pens with John Mitchell nibs. The inside is in excellent condition. The exterior shows many years of use. There is some loss of colour to the wood, and the right hand door stands slightly proud. There is what may be an original join on the right hand door which has possibly come adrift and been repaired at some point. There is a small lesion on the front of the left hand door, and other minor imperfections to the wood. The key is missing. There is a small piece of trim missing at the base on the left hand side, and the net from the left hand door is missing. The cabinet measures 13.5" wide by 13" high by 9.5" deep, and weighs 5.5 kilos. It is a lovely.well used and still useful item.
