Arcade Card Postcard. Circus T. A. Valenzula World’s Fattest Man Fat Weight 745 Lbs. Arcade Card Postcard Teodulo A. Valenzuela Teodulo Valenzuela died of Fatty degeneration of the heart. (he was 950lbs at time of death) He was in the Guinness Book of World Records at one time (1972) as being one of the Fattest man in the World. In 1918, he gave up his local pursuits to work for a Los Angeles motion picture company, but quit after a few weeks because his excessive weight wouldn't permit him to get around fast enough for the movies. In 1921 he signed a contract with R. J. McIntyre to be featured at the Pike, an ocean-front amusement strip in Long Beach, California, as a side show exhibit "fattest man on earth." Within two years Teo was traveling with the Snapp Brothers Shows ─ a small town touring circus and sideshow. Called “Happy Val” Teo was featured in a dime attraction called the “Congress of Fat People.” Teo’s leap to the big time came in 1924 after Barnum & Bailey invited the 745 pound heavyweight to join its “Congress of Strange People.” Now called “Tom Ton” a name more befitting the “World’s Fattest Man,” Teo was featured with “Ima Whale” the world’s heaviest woman and another newcomer, “Major Mite” who at four-feet and 20 pounds was the “World’s Smallest Man.” With his weight approaching 800 pounds living normally was becoming increasingly difficult. Teo could no longer find chairs to support him. Teo gained an unbelievable 100 pounds during a two-week period. With his heart failing and breathing becoming more labored Teo knew the end was near. He yearned to see his family, his wife and children so he made the trip back to Los Angeles, Ca. in a baggage car on a train. On May 27, 1926 Teodulo Valenzuela passed away. During a three-day viewing period over 40000 paid their last respects to Teodulo Valenzuela. Measures Approximately: 3.5" x 5.5"
