Seller: royce806 (35) 100%, Location: Barrow-upon-Humber, Ships to: GB, Item: 182367522425 Vintage Zaandam Dutch Wall Clock - Pristine Condition. Completely Original Clock - Sympathetically Overhauled and Renovated. This stunning old decorative clock belonged to my late father, and has been in storage since 2009. He had owned it for about 20 years, and is believed to be Dutch and to date from the early 1950s. The clock measures approx. 52 x 20 x 15cm, and is constructed of timber with burr walnut veneer to the back plate, matching stained timber housing, front brass finial featuring two lions bearing the motto "Nu Elck Syn Sin " (which translates from old Dutch as "To Each his Own"), smaller brass side finials, brass Atlas figure carrying an unmarked blue painted globe to the top, brass fittings, lovely solid brass pear shaped weights, and brass pendulum. It has a silver coloured chapter ring with black Roman numerals on an unmarked black felt background. The whole clock is in original condition; even the blue paint to the globe is original as far as I can ascertain, as is the glass to the side panels. The clock chimes with a pleasant light sounding bell once on the half-hour, and the appropriate number on the hour. On removing it from storage, I realised the excellent original condition it was in; it was just rather dirty and in need of some tlc. I knew it had been in full working order when put into store. I completely dismantled the clock (see photos) and then proceeded as follows:All the brass (including the chains) removed and cleaned with professional clock cleaning solvent to remove all dust, dirt, and tarnish from the brightwork, and then lightly polished with metal polish to shine. The walnut veneer and all the other timber, cleaned to remove any dust and marks, and then polished with genuine beeswax polish. The chapter ring and hands lightly cleaned with metal polish to shine. The movement components cleaned with professional clock cleaning fluid, dried, and all components inspected and adjusted as necessary, then oiled with fresh top quality clock oil, and reinstalled. The whole clock was then reassembled using all the original screws, and set running on test for a period of seven days, adjusting the timekeeping as necessary, before advertising here. Please study the photos carefully which form part of the description. The `bad' bits; well, there aren't any really. A couple of small marks on the brass weights which wouldn't quite polish out. A tiny chip on the woodwork hidden out of sight behind one of the brass finials. An original screw to a top finial which wouldn't tighten properly on reassembly - rather than replace it, I helped it with a drop of glue. The clock seems to have had a replacement suspension spring at some point (my father may have done this), but it is working fine. The result, as you can see, is a totally original timepiece in (almost) showroom condition; cleaned, serviced and in perfect working order to last for years to come. It keeps excellent time, and is a beautiful example of its' type. I know everyone says this at this time of year, but it really would make a splendid gift for someone who loves these ornate old clocks. For sale by auction, low £10 start and no reserve. Postage to the UK by Parcelforce Express 48 - sorry about the cost, it's the weights! Collection from North Lincolnshire welcome to avoid postage, cash on collection. UK BIDDERS ONLY PLEASE.
