Seller: trotterclocks (1,177) 100%, Location: Sittingbourne, Ships to: GB & many other countries, Item: 142195336320 VINTAGE SMITHS "WINSTON" 8 DAY FLOATING BALANCE. RESTORED AND SERVICED. IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. 1959 -65 Here for auction I have very nice Smiths "Winston" 8 day mantle / side clock. The clock case has beencompletely stripped down and restored by me with the brass top & bottom having been cleaned and the brushed brass restored and given 2 coats of gilt lacquer and new front glass fitted to replace the piece of plastic that had been put there. The black leatherette end finishers cleaned and polished. Clock stands on 4 turned brass feet. These clocks are from the period 1959 to 1965 and were offered in 3 versions, mechanical 8 day, Sectric mains electric and in the last years of production a Sectronic battery operated movement. This is the mechanical 8 day floating balance H6A unit. The H6A 8 day timepiece only movement was stripped and cleaned during the restoration with new bushing to the third wheel. The H6A movement was Smiths own and improved development from the original H5 which was made under licence from Hettich. Offering far superior regulation and high reliability. Having been serviced it can now be suitable for many more years of service. Key wind and hand set from the rear of the case, the winding key folds flat so the clock can sit almost flush with the wall. The clock stands on four tapered brass legs terminating in a ball at the base. With the floating balance the clock can be moved any where and the surface that it sits on does not have to be level as with a pendulum clock. The white faux leather dial is set off with nice modern gilt hands with gilt brass raised balls at 5 minute markers and larger gilt markers at the ¼ hours. Dial signed Smiths, 8 day made in Great Britain, some loss to lettering. The dial markers were removed, cleaned, polished and re-lacquered. These clocks were very popular with the cruise liner industry as souvenir's with a name badge of the vessel fixed to the top of the case. This clock was only a domestic sale. All in all a very nice looking clock that will look good in any home or office with it's retro looks. Requires minimuim attention just a weekly wind.
