A lovely antique Edwardian period claret jug. It is a Stuart Crystal (of Stourbridge) example and has the distinctive green drop decoration (sometimes called Cairngorm droppers) falling down the body. The body has twisted ribs and is also slightly waisted. The applied handle is hollow blown.
The jug is also mounted with a silver collar which has a Sheffield hallmark for 1901. It also has the makers mark for the Fenton Brothers Ltd who operated in Sheffield in the late 19th and early 20th century. The silver collar has the initials WJC or similar etched to the front.
A fine looking and rare claret jug with the original stopper. The design is clearly influenced by the Art Nouveau movement and it has a wonderful sinuous look. It holds a standard bottle of wine. A fine piece for the collector.
